What am I getting myself into?!

I (try to) live a pretty healthy lifestyle.
I make homemade meals, rarely eat out, eat my wheat berry in the morning, enjoy yummy salads, work out (well, I'll admit that Kenadie usually interrupts me mid-downward dog), refrain from alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or caffeine, I rarely drink soda.
You'd think I should feel like a million bucks!
Not so.
I don't feel well at all.
And I don't know why.
Well, besides those, I've just had an overall feeling of yuckiness, ouchiness, nauseousness, all of which wakes-me-in-the-middle-of-the-nightiness.
It's like the extreme yuckiness of pregnancy, but I'm NOT pregnant, people.
Doctor's visits and initial tests say that I'm one hot, healthy momma.
Okay, maybe not the hot part, but supposedly I'm at least "healthy".
But I still don't like feeling icky.
So I did research: I could have an inefficient gallbladder.  I could have a yeast imbalance in my body.
Still don't know what to do.
And then I looked into detox programs.
Ever tried/heard of one of those?
Some are pretty out there and extreme.
Ahem: I am not about to eat a diet of steamed raisin skins and lemon water for a few weeks.
Who are these people that come up with this stuff!?
After a lot of "shopping around", Garrett found a detox program (through a company called Metagenics) at one of his chiropractic seminars that seemed to make a little more sense than the others.
So I'm going for it, because at this point, I REALLY want to feel good again.
So here's the deal: for a week I take 4 of these supplement shakes a day (unfortunately, they aren't yummy) to get all my basic nutrients, and I can eat as many vegetables as I want.
That's it.
Then after the initial week and over the course of three more weeks, I start adding in fruit and nuts, then fish, chicken, and eggs, and then finally whole grains.
No refined sugars.  No white flour.
No dairy.
No processed meats or foods.
For a whole month.
What am I getting myself into!?
While I think I eat relatively healthy, I've never restricted my diet before.  I've always eaten whatever I want.  A whole month without brownies!?  No homemade potato rolls!?
Yikes.
But like I said, I'm desperate to start feeling better.
(and let me clarify, it's not because all the above foods are bad.  Many of them are--I believe--quite good for you.  Eliminating them for a little while is only supposed to help the body's organs get rid of built-up toxins faster.  Then I can eat a normal diet again.)
I'll keep you updated as this is going to be quite the challenge for me.
Today is day #1.
Go me.

P.S.  In case you're interested in exactly which Metagenics supplement ("medical food") I'm taking during this detox, it's called "Estrium" and is specifically designed to help balance out female hormones.  Here's the link.
And here's the link to what Garrett is taking.  It's called Ultra Clear Plus, and is designed for those who experience chronic fatigue and low energy.

Go Holly! I am excited to see how it goes. I really need to do something like that too. I am the same way as you are, I try to eat healthy, workout, live right, yet I always feel so blah. Anyway, you can do it!

Hi Holly!
Call me super-blog-stalker, but i followed a link from a few different blogs and found a reference to a "friend named Holly" who was a nurse and I thought, "hm, I wonder if that's Holly from my class, and it was!" And turns out you already have a link to my blog on yours. Along with several other people from our class. Where have I been???! But, i'm glad I found you! And cute family!
