Come What May, and Love It

I just wanted to leave a thought or two about Joseph B. Wirthlin, the oldest apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He passed away last night in his home at the age of 91, having worked in his office up until Thanksgiving. What an amazing man to work full-time for the Lord up until he was called Home!

I always told Garrett that to me, Elder Wirthlin seemed like a cute grandpa. He was my favorite to listen to at Conference. His messages were always full of the Spirit. I will never forget a year ago when he could barely stand at the podium to give a talk about the Love of Christ. Elder Nelson had to hold him up to keep him from falling over, but he didn't cut his talk short. He teetered there until he delivered his entire message. What an amazing man.

The last talk he gave at the October General Conference, was my favorite of the whole conference, entitled "Come What May, and Love It". If you haven't had the chance to hear or read it, go to www.lds.org and look it up. It's an inspiring talk that encourages us to find the good in all situations (even the worst) and to count our blessings. He also tells the most hilarious family story in the talk. I'll miss seeing him and hearing him speak at General Conference, but I'm glad he is now reunited with his wife and can have some rest. I am so inspired by these men of God who live their lives serving their fellow man and preaching the true and retored gospel of Jesus Christ without any rest or retirement. Their examples of charity and service make me want to be better.

I love Elder Wirthlin too! I especially liked his talk, "Sunday will Come." It's all about how despite the sadness of the Savior's death, he was gloriously resurrected a few days later. During our own dark time, we need to remember that it will be "but a small moment" and our own glorious resurrection will bring utter joy!
